About me
Susie has served in education since 2000, working for 25 years at the elementary and secondary levels in the Kanawha County school district in West Virginia, both as a classroom teacher and as the English Language Arts 6-12 county lead teacher. Since September of 2022, she has served in the role of ELA 6-12 Coordinator in the Office of PK-12 Academic Support. She is also an adjunct professor at the University of Charleston in Charleston, WV. Making new connections and embracing opportunities to learn from our wonderful WV educators on a multitude of levels throughout West Virginia has increased her energy and passion for empowering our teachers in instructing students to increase their literacy, analytical, and collaborative communication skills through persistent and pervasive research-based practices. Providing support for teachers while emphasizing the need for a rigorous, standards-based approach to instruction blended with hearty doses of compassion and an eye for discovering the gaps in our students’ literacy proficiencies are fulfilling and integral parts of her career.
